NAHUAL Workshop

The Arcetri Observatory Infrared group will organize a technical workshop on the Cryogenics and Mechanics of Nahual. The workshop will be held at the Arcetri Observatory location from November 26^th to 28^th 2008.

NAHUAL is an infrared high-resolution echelle spectrograph for the Gran Telescopio CANARIAS (GTC) of the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos in the island of La Palma. The main scientific objective of the instrument is to measure the radial velocity (RV) with very high precision (goal of 1 m/s) in the near infrared. This difficult target stresses available technologies to their limits. The aim of this workshop is to specify the best development path to this ambitious achievement.

Travel and accomodation

The Osservatorio di Arcetri is located in Arcetri, now inside the Firenze city limits. We have reserved few rooms at the Classic Hotel at a convenient rate. Please mail me your lodging needs.

Firenze can be reached by plane, arriving or at the Firenze Airport or at the Pisa Airport.

From Pisa Airport, Firenze center can be reached by train or by bus. The railway station is located inside the airport, to the extreme left of arrivals gate, while ticket office is on the right. Bus ticket office is in front of arrival gate, while the bus departure platform is just outside entrance. The trip will take about 1.5 hour in both cases.

From Firenze Airport, the city center can be reached by a shuttle bus or by taxi.

From Firenze center you can get to the Classic Hotel by city bus numbers 11 or 36/37. You can contact me to arrange alternative means of transportation.
